Our Story

Joseph Cellars began with a simple conviction: great wine comes from great land, honest work, and the patience to let both reveal themselves. Nearly two decades later, that conviction hasn’t changed.

Family Heritage

Est. 2007 — Calistoga

The Joseph family planted roots in the northernmost reaches of Napa Valley with a vision for wines that honor the land. What started as a dream shared around a dinner table has grown into one of Calistoga’s most cherished tasting destinations.

Three generations have shaped Joseph Cellars — each bringing their own passion while staying true to the founding principle: wine should be made with intention, shared with warmth, and enjoyed without pretense.

The Winemaker

Hands-On, Heart-Led

Our winemaker brings decades of Napa Valley experience and a philosophy rooted in minimal intervention. The goal is never to impose a style, but to listen — to the fruit, the vintage, and the land — and translate what it has to say into every bottle.

From hand-sorting in the crush pad to barrel selection in the cave, every decision is guided by taste, instinct, and respect for the raw material.

The Cave

Carved Into the Hillside

Our wine cave is carved directly into the volcanic hillside of Calistoga. The natural temperature and humidity create the perfect environment for aging — a slow, patient process that gives our wines their depth and complexity.

Visitors step inside and immediately feel the difference: cool air, the scent of oak and earth, and rows of barrels resting quietly in the dark. It’s where our wine finds its voice.

The Land

Calistoga Terroir

Calistoga sits at the northern edge of Napa Valley, where volcanic soils, warm days, and cool mountain nights produce Cabernet Sauvignon of remarkable intensity and elegance. The Palisades cliffs rise to the east, channeling afternoon breezes that temper the heat and extend the growing season.

Volcanic
Soil Type

Ancient volcanic ash and rocky loam give our wines their mineral backbone.

1,200 ft
Elevation

Vineyard blocks at elevation capture intense sunlight and cool evening air.

30°F
Diurnal Shift

Wide temperature swings preserve acidity and develop complex flavors.
